  Specializing in Laser Hair Removal

Reduce and Eliminate Shaving Bumps

Treatment of Unwanted Leg Veins at Metropolitan Cosmetic Laser Center

Safe and effective treatments
Metropolitan Cosmetic Laser Center uses the most advanced FDA cleared laser technology for long lasting hair removal, safely and effectively treating all ethnic origins and skin types including tanned skin.  Metropolitan Cosmetic Laser was the first medical spa in St. Louis to perform laser hair removal.  Pricing is differernt for each body part. Our laser hair removal packages are a 2 year package and pricing is competitive.  This allows the client to achieve the best results safe and effectively while not limiting those clients who need more treatments.  We offer monthly specials and 0% financing to make this procedure affordable for anyone who wants laser hair removal.

Treatments that really work
Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair while your hair is in the anagen, or active phase of growth:
The laser light is converted into heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue.
Hair re-growth is impeded or slowed in the damaged follicle.

Average treatment series
Only 30% or less of your hair may be in the active phase at any one time depending on the body area. Thus, a series of treatments will be required to achieve the long-term improvement you desire.
These treatments are spaced approximately 4-12 weeks apart, based on hair growth cycles. Our extensive experience tells us that you can expect to need from 5-12 treatments (7-10 is average) to each treatment area for long lasting optimal results

Typical treatment sessions
· Sessions for an upper lip or chin can take as little as 5 minutes, while larger areas on back and legs may require up to 30 minutes or more.

How permanent is Hair Removal?
· The average patient in clinical studies sees a 48% reduction in hair growth after three treatments and up to an 80% lasting reduction after five treatments (results vary).
· After you have completed a series of four to six treatments, any remaining hair may be finer and lighter in color.
· Most patients require one or two touch up treatments per year once completing their series.  We offer touch ups for $20 to $30 per area after a package has been purchased.

Reduce and Eliminate Shaving Bumps

Safe and effective treatments

Metropolitan Cosmetic Laser Center now provides the most advanced FDA cleared laser technology for the reduction and elimination of Pseudo Folliculitis (PF), more commonly known as shaving bumps. These may appear on any commonly shaved area of your body. This advanced technology allows us to treat all ethnic groups and skin types safely and effectively.

Treatments that really work
Laser light is absorbed by pigment in actively growing hair, damaging the hair follicle and thus, hair re-growth is impeded, reducing and eliminating the bumps caused by ingrown hairs. The average patient sees at least a 75% short-term reduction of shaving bumps within 2 weeks after just one or two treatments.
Long-term improvement is seen after completing a series of four to six treatments.
One or two annual touch up treatments may be required after completing the initial treatment series.

Average treatment series
Only 30% or less of your hair may be in the active growth phase at any one time. Therefore, a series of treatments will be required to achieve the long-term improvement you desire.
These treatments are spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart, based on hair growth cycles.

Typical treatment sessions
Sessions to treat the neck (15 minutes) or bikini or full beard area can take as little as 15 minutes.

Treatment of Unwanted Leg Veins at Metropolitan Cosmetic Laser Center

We're pleased to offer a revolutionary new laser treatment  and sclerotherapy that can quickly and safely eliminate unsightly spider veins and broken capillaries.

LASER VEIN TREATMENTS

When will you see results?
The appearance of leg or facial veins will either dramatically fade or completely disappear during the treatment. Some vessels may show temporary swelling that will subside after a few hours to a few days. The redness of the treated vessels will gradually disappear as the healing process occurs. This may take between two and eight weeks.

How often can you have it done?
Most patients see excellent improvement after just two treatments. Everyone responds differently to treatments, with some needing only one treatment and others requiring a third treatment. You can optimize your results by closely following the post treatment instructions. The usual treatment interval is eight weeks.

Are there any side effects?
Immediately following the procedure you may experience some redness in the treated area. The redness usually dissipates within one to three days. Also, although it is not the intended purpose of this particular treatment, hair growth may be impaired in the treated area.

How long does it take?
Most treatments will take between 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. We will provide topical anesthetics at no charge. A topical anestetics should be applied 30-90 minutes before the treatment time (this is greatly encouraged to increase your comfort).

Sclerotherapy

What is Scleroterapy?

Sclerotherapy was developed over 75 years ago and today is one of the most common treatments for spider and vericose veins.  During the treatment, a physician will inject a sclerosing agent into the vein through a tiny needle.  Treatment can last from 15 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on the number of veins treated in a particular session. The solution, once injected into the vein, replaces the blood in the vein and causes irritation and corrosion to the walls of the vessel.  The body then begins the natural healing process and the vein begins to decompose, shrink and eventually dissappear.

What are the side effects?

In most cases, you will be able to resume regular activities immediately.  However, vigorous activities or excessive standing is not advised for 24 to 48 hours.  Following treatment, the affected veins may darken and the area may appear bruised.  Support hose or a snug wrapping to the treated area is recommended.  This application of pressure will help reduce side effects and aid in more effective healing and treatment.  After the treatment of larger vessels, the affted area may appear pigmented but this is temporary and will fade over time.

What is the treatment like?

The problem veins will be examined and reviewed by the physician.  A quick test performed will allow the physician to determine if you are a good candidate for sclerotherapy.  Photographs will be taken and problem veins will be marked.  The sclerosing agent will then be injected into the targeted veins.  Dicomfort if minimal and no anesthetic is required.  You will be asked to bring support hose or they can be purchased in our office.  The support or compression hose prevent reocurrence of vessels.  You will be asked to come back in one week for a follow up appointment.  The physcian will ascess your healing and if additonal treatments will be required.

  BOTOX®, Restylane®

After years of squinting, laughing, frowning, smoking, and worrying, the skin around the eyes and on the forehead often develops deep lines and wrinkles. These lines are called "expression lines." Until now, this type of wrinkle has been difficult to treat. Expression lines may often make you look older, tired, or stressed. Now, by utilizing this FDA approved muscle-relaxing agent, expression lines can be significantly reduced. We also use BOTOX for the treatment of Hyperhydrosis (excess underarm sweating) and for Migraine headaches.

How long does BOTOX® last treatment last?

The effects usually last 3 to 4 months. You will notice a gradual fading of its effects. The results, following several treatments, may last 6 to 8 months or more. BOTOX® offers extended relief over the course of long-term treatment.

Are there any possible side effects?

With BOTOX®, side effects, if any, are usually mild and temporary. Botulinum toxins contain proteins and in some circumstances, the body will form antibodies to the protein. If antibodies are formed, the effect would be a lesser response to therapy. Temporary bruising is sometimes experienced. This symptom resolves itself within 2 to 3 days. In rare cases, there can be a sligh drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression. If this should happen, return to your physician.

What type of results will I see?

Typically, the effect of BOTOX® is visible within 3 days. Maximum benefits are reached between 10 to 14 days. Once the muscle relaxes and the skin softens, you will have a more relaxed and youthful appearance. BOTOX® treatments are not a subsitute for the results achieved with a facelift. The optimum appearance may be achieved with BOTOX® therapy in conjunction with a faclift, laser resurfacing, and skin rejuvenation..

What is BOTOX® ?

BOTOX® is a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent derived from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum. Ophthalmologists have used BOTOX® for over 12 years for its original indication, the treatment of blepharospasm. For years physciains have been using BOTOX® as a cosmetic treatment to correct visible signs of stress and aging.

How does BOTOX® work?

Your brain sends messages to your muscles so that they can contract and move. BOTOX® works to block the muscle from responding to the message. As a result, the muscle relaxes and the overlying skin remains unwrinkled and smooth.

What is treatment like?

With a very fine needle, BOTOX® is injected into the specific muscle that is contracting and causing the lines and wrinkles on the face. treatment is effective, safe, and takes approximately 10 minutes. The pain is a minimal "pin prick" and no anesthetic is required. Immediately following treatment, you may resume regular activities!

  • RESTYLANE®

What is Restylane®?

Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. We also use Restylane to increase the fullness of lips and decrease dark circles under the eyes.

What is Restylane® made of?

Restylane® is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyualuronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human skin.  The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA, or Non Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid.  NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

How is Restylane® different that other hyaluronic acid-based products?

Unlike other hyalluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only Restylane is non-animal based.  This quality eliminates any risk of animal based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

What should patients do prior to treatment?

Restylane® requires no pretesting, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injected site.  Also if you have suffered from cold sores, there is a risk that the injection could trigger a break out.

Is Restylane® safe?

Yes.  Restylane® has been used safely since 1966.  There is vitually no risk of allergic reaction.  The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injected site.  These effects usually resolve in two to three days.

How long does Restylane® last?

The average treatment results last six months or even longer.

How often should I have Restylane® treatments done?

Restylane® last twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year.  Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.

How is Restylane® different from Botox®?

Restylane® is a natural cosmetic filler.  In contrast, Botox® is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles.  Many patients have been very pleased after receiving both products and can acheive optimum results.

How much does Restylane® treatments cost?

Restylane® is a customized procedure based on your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient.  In general, the cost of Restylane® is comparable to the cost of similar procedures.  Becuase Restylane® is longer lasting, it proves to be very economical over the long term.  Average cost per patient is approximately $600 to $1200 depending on how many areas are being treated.

  Tattoo Removal

Decorative tatoos have a history dating back to at least 5000 years. The desire to remove them has probably existed just as long.

Early attempts to remove tattoos have had less than desirable results. The use of dermabrasion, salabrasion and Argon or CO2 lasers have left behind scars in place of the tattoo.

The advent of Q-Switched lasers has permitted the removal of most tattoo inks with a very low risk of scarring. The laser system can significantly lighten or remove many tattoo inks, and is particularly advanced in the removal of blue, black and red inks.

The laser removes tattoo ink with the energy of light. Just as a natural sunlight is made up of light wavelengths of many colors, a laser is a device which is designed to produce one or more specific wavelenghts of light. These wavelengths are either absorbed, reflected or simply passed through objects. Tattoo ink is removed by using a specific wavelength which passes through the skin but is absorbed by the ink. The rapid absorption of light energy causes the tattoo ink to destruct, where it is then removed by the body's natural filtering systems.

Medical research has taught us which wavelenghts of light to use and specifically how to deliver the laser's output to best remove tattoo ink. The laser uses a light wavelength which passes through skin, but is absorbed by most inks. The Medlite also delivers the light in very short, high intensity pulses for maximum ink destruction. The use of this specific combination of wavelenght and rapidly pulsed light results in minimal damage to the skin while providing maximum tattoo ink removal.

Is the process painful?

The laser emits light in very short flashes of light called pulses. The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of a thin rubberbank or specks of hot bacon grease on the skin. The large majority of all patients do not require anesthesia.

How many treatment sessions will it take to remove the tattoo?

On the average, professional tattoos require 5-6 treatments, while amature tattoos require 3-4 treatments, all spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin. Rarely, even more than ten treatments may be needed.

Do all colors of ink disappear equally as well?

No, dark (blue/black) inks and red inks fade the best. Oranges and purples usually respond well. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, although additional treatments can produce significant fading.

Will the tattoo completely disappear?

In many cases, yes. Greater than 95% fading of the tatoo may be accomplished. However, it is very important to know that over 100 tattoo inks are in use worldwide today, none of which are regulated by the FDA. Not knowing which tattoo ink, how deep or how much was used, makes it impossible for the technician to predict the degree of removal of any given tattoo.

What type of post-treatment care is necessary?

Occasionally there will pinpoint bleeding associated with the treatment. An antibacterial ointment and a dressing will be applied to the area. The treatment area should be kept clean with continued application of any ointment given to you by your technician. A shower can be taken the next day, although the treated area should not be scrubbed.
